He loves the event but is Phil playing well enough to win it?
Odds: [16.5]
Last five US Opens: 3/2/18/mc/2
Phil's army of fans must be wondering what their man has to do to add this major to his portfolio, although they should have made a profit from his numerous challenges. Mickelson has been runner-up five times, trading heavily odds-on during the final round in 2008, 2006 and 2004. Clearly the emphasis on scrambling for par around these tough set-ups plays to his strengths, although 43rd in the 1997 US Open at Congressional was one of his worst results in this major. A greater concern is that, apart from one majestic display to win the Houston Open, he's barely challenged for a title since finishing third in this event last year.
