If consistency is the criteria, then the new world number one should probably be even further ahead in the rankings. A career best victory at Wentworth last month was richly deserved reward for one of the most phenomenal runs in golfing history. His last ten events have yielded eight strokeplay top-tens, a win at the Accenture World Matchplay and beaten finalist in the Volvo-sponsored equivalent. Since the beginning of 2010, Luke has recorded an incredible 14 top-five finishes. The next career step must be a first major title, and the emphasis on accuracy and scrambling at Congressional looks just the ticket. Given his current impeccable form, it makes sense to overlook a disappointing recent US Open record.
