Another legend struggling to fend off accusations of permanent decline. Ernie won the second of his two US Open titles when Congressional last hosted this major in 1997, but is a pale shadow of that nerveless putter nowadays. Nevertheless, while there is little encouragement in Ernie's recent formbook, he does retain most of his ability. It's only six months since he last won a title, and he could so easily have landed a third US Open when third at Pebble Beach last year.
