Tiger Woods was delighted to overcome his swing problems and sit joint-top of the leaderboard, with Vijay Singh and Arron Oberholser, after round two of the Wachovia Championship
The world number one has played sparingly this season, opting to miss a number of tournaments and concentrate on the bigger events, but he has maintained his form throughout the first four months of the campaign.
The 31-year-old, who is on offer at 1.61 to better his third-round playing partner Singh's (2.82) score on Saturday, stuttered through his second round, with a number of wayward drives and fairway iron shots.
But he was pleased to be in contention after 36 holes, with his short game coming to the rescue on more than one occasion.
"I was struggling with my swing a little bit," he said. "I'm very pleased with my score. I missed a couple of short ones but also got away with a couple of bad drives.
"I pretty much have maximised my rounds. I didn't hit it very good today. I made a couple of good par saves to keep the middle part of my round going."
Woods is, not surprisingly, the 2.14 favourite to win the tournament with Singh trading at 5.6 and Oberholser on offer at 17.5.
Phil Mickelson is three shots back and 'Lefty' can be backed at 16.5 to overhaul the leaders over the next two days.
