Jim's a winner and he can do it this week on the PGA Tour, says Dan Geraghty.
Last week's tips: a top ten from Jeff Overton continued his impressive recent form; Brandt Snedeker briefly threatened before fading away and an excellent performance from Manny Villegas on his PGA tour debut saw him string four solid rounds together.
Also last week, it wasn't hard to notice the excellent golf Jim Furyk played on his way to a third place finish at Doral. He finished strongly and confirmed himself to be in great form. Furyk has won at least once in 11 of the last 14 seasons. Despite going without a victory last year, he finished third twice and second once. The fact it's been over a year since his last victory must be hurting Furyk, by all accounts he takes his golf very seriously and could give Vijay Singh a run for his money with the amount of hours he spends honing his game. This week he must have a favourite's chance.
For the most part David Toms has been in good form in the early stages of this season. He struggled last season and finished outside the top 125 on the money list for the first time in over ten years. He's a class act and after some time off he's bounced back with three top tens from five appearances so far this year. His excellent putting will stand him in good stead on this notoriously difficult course. Former major winner Toms, has shown signs he's ready to win again, on a course that should suit this may be the week.
Ryo Ishikawa can be forgiven his missed cut two weeks ago at the Northern Trust Open, it was his much hyped first appearence on the PGA Tour and the furore that surrounded the week would have been too much for many seasoned pro's let alone a 17 year old foreigner. This week there will be less pressure on Ryo and I expect him to make the cut. With a bit of luck he can kick on from there and get involved in the tournament at the business end.
Selections: Jim Furyk ([13.5]), David Toms ([38.0]), Ryo Ishikawa ([500.0])
