Daniel Geraghty picks another trio to have on your side in his weekly golf betting challenge.
So, obviously, after tipping Phil Mickelson two weeks back he won the Northern Trust Open last weekend with something to spare (never in doubt!). Never mind, onto this week and the Mayakoba Golf Classic, and with the world's top 64 players elsewhere there's some great value to be had in the field...
Chris Stroud has a fantastic opportunity to gain his first PGA tour win in this field. He struggled with injury during the first half of last season but played his way into form at the end of the year, finishing with six top-30 showings in a row. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough to keep his card but he took that form into the gruelling PGA Tour qualifying tournament and won his card back with an excellent fourth place finish.
Jason Day will have felt hard done by after this years AT&T Pro Am was called off a day early. He was lying in 14th place following an eagle on the 18th hole of his third round. Day would have fancied his chances of making the top ten and that would have been enough to get him into the Northern Trust Open field the following week. The 21-year-old has been forced to mature quickly since he burst onto the scene as the youngest ever winner on the Nationwide tour. I've been impressed with his two outings so far this year and I'm not ready to give up on him just yet.
Tiger Woods is not the only golfer returning from a long lay off this week. Winning the Mayokoba will be a huge ask for Roland Thatcher, he's yet to win on the PGA tour and has been out for the best part of a year following surgery on his wrist.
However, Thatcher has good course form here having tied for ninth last year, shooting a 61
in the progress. In 2007 he won twice on the Nationwide tour as well as having six top ten finishes. He caught my eye on the main tour before his injury last year and is certainly someone to keep an eye on, [150.0] is a 'tradeable' price.
Selections: Chris Stroud ([70.0]), Jason Day ([70.0]), Roland Thatcher ([150.0]).
