After an outstanding 2006 season, things have failed to work out as Simon Dyson would have liked this year but he is likely to be a popular bet to defend his KLM Open title later this month.
The Yorkshireman followed up his maiden European Tour success at the Indonesia Open last year with victory at Vandvoort and he is expected to be a leading figure in the betting when the tournament takes place at Kennemer Golf and Country Club from August 23-26.
Dyson, who landed the odds when beating Australian Richard Green at the first hole of a play-off last year, has flattered to deceive this season wasting two good winning opportunities early in the year.
But he has still managed three top-five places and six top-ten finishes this season and the odds are he will be a leading figure again when the tournament reaches its conclusion.
Kennemer will be staging the event for a 17th occasion after returning there last year and, while the par-71course is one of the shortest on tour measuring under 7,000 yards, it still has a number of difficulties that must be overcome and will effect betting selections.
Wind is a usually a factor on the seaside venue which has a links feel about it, while it could be a good bet to select players who are straight off the tee with positioning of the ball crucial on a number of holes.
With many of Europe's leading figures likely to be away in America playing in the inaugural FedExCup, the betting looks wide option for this year's tournament.
David Lynn's odds should be checked out after he emerged victorious in 2004 and the Englishman appears a good bet to perform well again this year. Lynn could have landed the odds in 2006 had he holed a few more putts at crucial stages, the same applying to Dane Anders Hansen who finished alongside him but is enjoying a much better 2007 having won the BMW PGA Championship and is likely to be priced at inviting odds.
Those with bets on veteran Bernhard Langer in the past have collected as he won the tournament twice and it will be interesting to see his odds if he decides to play while European Ryder Cup star Lee Westwood is another former winner who could be worth noting in the betting.
Westwood, the 1999 champion, will be a popular bet. His odds were slashed would have been slashed in-play betting when he came from eight shots back on the final day to win eight years ago.
Irishman Damien McGrane's odds went right out in the betting when he blew a three-shot lead in the last round last year but could be attractive odds again and may be a good bet, while it could also be worth following the fortunes of Christian Cevaer, Garry Houston and Peter Lawrie in the betting after they all finished in the top six last year.
