Padraig 'Pod' Harrington is a big drifter in the Betfair market for the event amid reports of a wrist injury. The strong favourite remains Spaniard Sergio Garcia, though, at [12.0].
Padraig Harrington is out to a massive [34.0] on Betfair for a repeat Open Championship at Royal Birkdale this week following the news that he is nursing an injured wrist and is by no means certain to even defend his title.
The Dubliner, who warmed up for The Open with a four stroke victory in the Irish PGA Championship at The European Club over the weekend had been an [17.0] shot on Betfair's market before news of his injury broke today.
Spain's Sergio Garcia, the man denied by Harrington in last year's Open playoff, looks set to start the event as the clear favourite. He is currently trading at [13.0] on Betfair - although he is as short as 8-1 with some traditional bookmakers.
Others towards the top of the Outright betting include Ernie Els ([17.0]), Phil Mickelson ([18.0]) and Lee Westwood ([18.0]).
Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell is just [50.0] for the Open Championship following his Scottish Open success at Loch Lomond on Sunday.
