No Tiger Woods gives everyone a chance, says former European number one

Colin Montgomerie has talked up his chances of landing the 2008 Open in what is shaping up to be the most unpredictable major of the Tiger Woods era.

The great man's absence has left the tournament up for grabs with 15 players trading at [50.0] or under on Betfair, and nobody currently in single figures.

Monty is not one of the 15 but his improved form in recent weeks - second at the Open de France followed by 24th at the European Open, when he fell away in the closing round - has seen his price drop from a high of [250.0] to his current [75.0], having touched [60.0].

"It's good in a way that Tiger Woods is not playing, it gives everybody a chance," said Monty.

"It gives everybody a certain opportunity. When the door's open, someone's got to walk through. You never know, I might be the one."

The eight-time Order of Merit winner also talked about his Ryder Cup chances, believing he can still make the team.

"Golf is a momentum game and you have to make hay while the sun shines," he said.

"Let's hope over the next few weeks I can get in that automatic spot. If not prove to the captain that I'm capable of performing on the world stage."
