It is surprising that Rose has never matched the fourth place achieved on that incredible Open debut as a teenage amateur back in 1998. After all, he's gone on to establish himself at the highest level, winning a European money list and a couple of good events in the States. He also has a good record on links courses and majors in general. There are enough snippets of form in an inconsistent season to suggest he's capable of finally fulfilling that early potential, and the odds are attractive too.
