Is Edoardo coming back into form?
"Edoardo Molinari could be playing himself into form at the perfect time, with his favourite tournament the Masters right around the corner."
You can't keep a good man down and Dan Geraghty continues his winner-hunting with a look at the best three-balls on Thursday at the Trophee Hassan II
Matteo Manassero won his three ball but it was once again a small loss for last week's column.
I will stay with the European Tour this week, where we're in Morocco for the Trophee Hassan II.
Edoardo Molinari [2.6] has struggled since the wonderful run of form that led him into battle at the Ryder Cup in 2010. He's been working hard to turn it around and last week's 11th placed finish offered much encouragement. Molinari recently announced that he needs surgery on a wrist injury he's been carrying for four years but is happy to put the surgery off and says it's not affecting his game at present.
The Italian could be playing himself into form at the perfect time, with his favourite tournament the Masters right around the corner (for which he has already qualified thanks to last year's 11th place at Augusta). During the first round this week he is joined by Thomas Levet, who struggled badly last week on a course he's won on before and Joost Luiten who is certainly a danger and may well be challenging Molinari for a Ryder Cup spot this year.
It pains me a little to oppose one of my favourite players - Danny Willett - but given his current form, or lack of, I will reluctantly take him on, on day one with Mark Foster @ [2.3]. The Englishman recorded his best finish of the season last week with a tie for seventh and is looking to build on a fantastic 2011. Read a recent interview with a focused and upbeat Mark here. The badly out of form Pablo Martin makes up the three ball and after giving him a chance in a weak three-ball on home soil last week, I will look to take him on this time around.
My final selection Branden Grace ([3.6]) is involved in a stellar three ball with Matteo Manassero and Robert Rock. It'll take some winning but his price is too good to turn down. Grace found himself thrust into the spotlight this year after back-to-back wins in South Africa. He's struggled a little bit since but shot a wonderful round of 64 at the recent WGC at Doral and I feel he deserves a little more respect from the layers back on the European Tour.
