Michael Sim is fourth favourite at 28 to win the Viking Classic

"Eight of DJ Trahan's last 12 rounds have been under 70 and a 64 at last weeks Frys.com open confirmed his good form. It's been a disappointing year for Trahan with many missed cuts but he's made the weekend the last three occasions he's played in this tournament - winning here in 2006 - and everything points to a good week."

Scotland-born Aussie golfer is the real deal and can pick up one of the end-of-season tournaments, says Dan Geraghty

Last week's headline selection Tim Clark hit the crossbar yet again, finishing two shots off the pace in fourth. In fairness, Troy Matteson played well on the last day and won the tournament rather than tiny Tim throwing another one away.

Onto this week and Michael Sim is a confident pick. His form on the Nationwide tour has made pundits stand up and take note and last week added another fine result to his CV when he finished second at the Nationwide Tour Championship. That form is good enough to give him a great chance in one of these end of season PGA Tour fields and the fact that he has played in this tournament before is a big bonus. In 2007 Sim finished 22nd here and he'll be expecting to improve on that this week.

It was hard not to be impressed with an astonishing performance from rookie Rickie Fowler last week and the bookies have reacted by putting him among the short price favourites for this tournament. Fowler looks the real deal but at very stingy odds of [26.0] is reluctantly overlooked for John Mallinger, who is selected for the third (and final) week in a row. In a field lacking quality odds of [85.0] look very tradeable.

Selections: Michael Sim ([28.0]), DJ Trahan ([34.0]), John Mallinger ([85.0])
