"Finding himself at the Turning Stone Resort Championship rather than last week's Tour Championship should be a sharp kick up the backside for Adam Scott."
The big stars of the PGA Tour put their feet up when the Fall Series comes around but that only makes the betting more interesting for Dan Geraghty
Last week's Tour Championship marked the end of this year's PGA tour for a number of stars but the five events that make up the Fall Series are desperately important for the players who are yet to secure their card for next year or simply crave that elusive debut win. The Fall Series also offers some great betting opportunities.
Dustin Johnson earned his first tour win at this tournament last year and he comes back to defend in great shape. Since his debut win last year, Johnson was victorious again (at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro Am), competed well at the Majors and taken part in his first Tour Championship. Dustin is just about the favourite this week but I expected him to be a top price 16/1 at best, rather than the [21.0] available. I think he's a worthy favourite and Dustin is worth a bet here.
Finding himself at the Turning Stone Resort Championship rather than last week's Tour Championship should be a sharp kick up the backside for Adam Scott. At times last year Scott was in glorius form, he won on the PGA Tour (at the Byron Nelson Championship) and came within a whisker of hitting a 59 on the European Tour.
After a solid start to this year, including a 2nd place finish on his second start of the year, somewhere things have gone drastically wrong for Scott. He's missed 10 of his last 14 cuts on the PGA Tour and hasn't troubled the top of any leaderboards. Scott has had a month off to work on his game and it's worth chancing a return to form. At anywhere near his best, Scott would be a short price favourite in this field.
While Scott desperately scrambles to protect his fading reputation, fellow young Australian Michael Sim's career is going the other way. Sim has an unbelievable three wins from 12 starts on the Nationwide tour this year. Not only that but those 12 starts also include a 2nd, a 3rd, a 4th and a 5th. It's a big step up onto the PGA Tour but Sim has had an extraordinary season and this isn't the strongest of PGA Tour events. A Scott and Sim last day pairing would certainly make great viewing.
Selections: Dustin Johnson ([21.0]), Adam Scott ([65.0]), Michael Sim ([48.0])
