East Moline - venue for the John Deere Classic
"Kenny Perry [36.0] should be on everyone's shortlist as he aims to get closer to his career goal of 20 PGA Tour wins."
Dan Geraghty mixes it up at East Moline with a Scottish-Australian and an All American but could a former champion spoil his selections? Meanwhile, the big man is back...
Another very out of sorts performance from Tiger last week. O'Hair and Snedeker fared much better but couldn't quite land a blow, eventually finishing 11th and 16th respectively.
This week I'm all over Michael Sim, I've been waiting for the right time to get the young (Scottish) Australian onside following his injury and this week everything looks right. Last season on the Nationwide tour, Sim barely had a week out of contention and he's certainly good enough to tranlate that form to the PGA Tour. In 2007 Sim finished 11th in this tournament and his game has progressed a long way since then. After missing the cut at the US Open, Sim played four rounds in the 60's on his way to finishing 21st at the Travelers Championship, he then had last week off and there has to be a strong chance he'll be right in contention this week before travelling over to his birthplace for the Open Championship next week.
It's likely All American Kenny Perry's mind will be firmly on winning the John Deere Classic rather than next week's British Open. Perry has made it clear that winning on the PGA Tour and securing his place in the American Ryder Cup team are more important to him than playing golf in Europe. Perry burst into life at the end of June last year, winning the Travelers Championship and as a past winner here, Perry should be on everyone's shortlist as he aims to get closer to his career goal of 20 PGA Tour wins (he currently sits on 14).
Stuart Appleby is another I've been waiting to get onside this year and this week could be the time. After having a torrid time of it last year, Appleby has definitely shown signs that his hard work is paying off. Appleby finished 29th at the US Open and has followed that up with two more solid weeks, including an 11th place finish at last week's AT&T National. He's not played this tournament before but in a weakened field an in form Appleby will surely fancy his chances.
Dangers: Former champion Jonathyn Byrd will be confident coming back here off the back of a top 20 last week. Tim Clark has excellent form here, including a second place finish in 2007 and now that he has his win, Timmy should be more comfortable in contention. Jeff Overton is in fantastic form and will surely be rewarded with a win at some stage.
Bubba Watch: Bubba's back following a week off after his win. Winning is a habit as Justin Rose has proved, however Bubba's mind may just wander to next weeks Open Championship. Take a tour round Bubba's Place... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXMlUBhkRwc

Selections: Michael Sim [80], Kenny Perry [36], Stuart Appleby [80]
