Suart Appleby will be desperate to win this week, if only so he can qualify for the Mercedes Open
"As I stated last week, Stuart Appleby is someone I've kept a close eye on this season and after a disappointing showing at the John Deere Classic, I am willing to give him one last chance in this field. It's his first start in this event and the Aussie will surely see it as a fantastic opportunity to get himself a win and an invitation to his beloved (season opening) Mercedes Classic."
The eyes of the golfing world may all be on St Andrews this week but Dan Geraghty is staying loyal to his beloved PGA Tour and continues in his quest to take on the field with three weekly selections.
Reno Tahoe Open
An understandably weak field in America this week as the PGA Tour stars flock to Scotland. However, there are plenty of opportunities as some of the tour's lesser lights look to take this opportunity to secure a win and consequent two year exemption.
Kevin Stadler has had a really good season thus far and will certainly fancy his chances of a first PGA Tour win this week. After a few missed cuts, last week's finish of tied 34th at the John Deere Classic marked an improvement of late for Stadler and he can go into this week with confidence after finishing tied 2nd here in 2007; this former star of the Nationwide Tour has shown he certainly has the game to win on the main tour. In this field, his price is massive.
Alex Prugh is one of Stadler's playing partners for the first two rounds and perhaps the two can drag each other along. Prugh had a great season that included a win on last year's Nationwide tour and carried that form into the first couple of months of this year with some fantastic performances on the PGA tour. His form has tailed off but he will find this company easier to live with and is worth chancing at a nice price.

It's his first start in this event and the Aussie will surely see it as a fantastic opportunity to get himself a win and an invitation to his beloved (season opening) Mercedes Classic, the winners' invitational that Appleby won three years in a row from 2004 to 2006.
Dangers: Understandably Vaughn Taylor is a popular pick this week. Vaughn has won this tournament on two of the three occasions he's played, he's looked better of late but the price is plenty short enough for me. Robert Garrigus played some flawless golf until an utterly ridiculous 18th hole at the St Jude Classic and he has some form here of his own if he manages to get back in contention and compose himself. John Rollins is also easy to fancy and last year's winner may be more reliable in contention.
Bubba Watch: Thank the good lord, Bubba is in Scotland this week and the big man must be licking his lips at all those driveable par fours. Godspeed Gerry, godspeed.
Keep up with Bubba's Open progress here:
Selections: Kevin Stadler [70], Alex Prugh [80], Stuart Appleby [40]
