The ever-colourful Ricky Fowler could go well this week after the boost of being picked for the Ryder Cup
"Receiving captain's Ryder Cup picks did no harm to the form of messrs Luke Donald and Edoardo Molinari. At big odds I think it's worth chancing that it has a similar effect on Rickie Fowler's game this week. Fowler is a debutant in this tournament but that hasn't stopped him going close in tournaments earlier in the year."
Dan Geraghty has included two players who were amongst Corey Pavin's wildcard picks this week but which two has he gone for?
The FedEx Cup starts to get interesting this week with the 70 players left being cut to just 30 at the end of this week.
It doesn't feel big or clever putting in Tiger Woods for the second week running but the fact is, I will be backing him. Last week, despite a ridiculously woeful start, Tiger once again showed grit and determination to bounce back. At one stage it looked very likely that he'd miss the cut and finishing the tournament in 11th place sets him up nicely for this week at a tournament he's won five times in the past. It's going to take a win to get Tiger into the top five of the FedEx Cup standings and give him a chance to win overall and while that doesn't make it more likely he will win, I think Tiger is making progress and his name near the top of the leaderboard at Cog Hill (where he won by eight shots last year) will certainly bring fear to all.
Receiving captain's Ryder Cup picks did no harm to the form of messrs Luke Donald and Edoardo Molinari. At big odds I think it's worth chancing that it has a similar effect on Rickie Fowler's game this week. Fowler is a debutant in this tournament but that hasn't stopped him going close in tournaments earlier in the year. He has an early Thursday tee time and I'd expect him to come out firing after his good news earlier this week and his price could be very tradeable.
Marc Leishman has caught my eye in recent months, the young Australian hits the ball a long way and makes a lot of birdies but is prone to making the odd big mistake. However, last year's tournament was his first appearance here and he finished in a tie for second. I wouldn't be confident that he could close out the tournament and win but recent form, course form, and the fact that Leishman is the first man on the course on Thursday morning means that he's a must bet for a trade at [210.0]
Dangers: Luke Donald is in grand form but his back nine on Sunday last week was most disappointing. Matt Kuchar has become Mr Consistent and has a great chance on a course he won the US Amateur Championship on so another top ten beckons. Stewart Cink has some excellent form here and is another who should be boosted by his Ryder Cup inclusion.
Bubble Watch: In honour of this week's final FedEx cup cut, Bubba Watch has become bubble watch... big names that are currently outside the top 30 include Tiger Woods, Ryan Moore, Sean OHair, Angel Cabrera, Ian Poulter, Camilo Villegas, Stewart Cink and Anthony Kim. Look for big weeks from them. Rory McIlroy is currently just inside the top 30 at 29th. The big man, Bubba, is sat comfortably in 12th.
Selections: Tiger Woods [7.4], Rickie Fowler [100.0], Marc Leishman [210.0]
