Lucas Glover
"Not everyone enjoys putting on these Bermuda grass greens, so it bodes well that Lucas Glover has won previously in Florida, and finished fifth on this course very early in his career back in 2006."
As this week's main event is a World Golf Championship, Paul Krishnamurty gets four cracks at picking out a triple-figure priced golf winner. Starting with the lowest price first, this quartet can hopefully open up some trading value for the weekend.
Lucas Glover @ [130.0]
Triple-figures about the reigning US Open champion doesn't really do justice to his efforts from four strokeplay events in 2010. Glover held a clear lead at one stage of the season-opening SBS Championship, before a disastrous Sunday. Likewise, ninth at Torrey Pines disguises the fact that he was bang in contention with a few holes remaining. Not everyone enjoys putting on these Bermuda grass greens, so it bodes well that Glover has won previously in Florida, and finished fifth on this course very early in his career back in 2006.
Soren Hansen @ [150.0]
My fellow columnist Stephen Rawlings rather brutally dismisses Soren Hansen as a man 'to avoid like the plague', and I do know exactly where he's coming from. Hansen has probably blown as many good final day opportunities over the past couple of seasons than anyone, with Sunday's latest final round flop in Malaysia very much true to form.
Nevertheless, while that is an obvious deterrent to taking short prices about the Dane when in contention, his record is consistent enough to recommend a bet at odds of [150.0], at least as a trading vehicle. Hansen has made the top-10 in 12 of his last 20 events, which includes two of the last three majors. He wasn't too far away in this event last year either, finishing 13th.
Soren Kjeldsen @ [180.0]
Kjeldsen's form has been ordinary since reaching the top-10 of the last strokeplay WGC event in Shanghai last autumn, but both previous efforts on this course suggest he shouldn't be written off. The Dane has finished seventh and 11th here in the past two years, easily coming to terms with the grainy greens. A hot putter is essential for an event usually characterised by low scoring, and there are few better than Kjeldsen in that department.
Kevin Na @ [200.0]
Na has looked an improving player for a while, and at the age of 26, is ripe for a first time win. He hasn't missed a cut anywhere since July, and has registered 11 top-10 finishes since the beginning of 2009. Interestingly, Na's latest three efforts in big Florida events all resulted in top-11 finishes, including a career highlight when finishing third in the 'Fifth Major' at Sawgrass.
