This veteran is a straight driver - a key stat at Southwind - and could reward at odds of [210.0].

Shane Lowry, Christian Cevear, Jeppe Huldahl - who's next in this ever growing line of golfing shocks? In comparison to that trio, this week's selection is an obvious winner at a mere [210.0]. The man in question is Scott McCarron, who won the last of his three PGA Tour titles eight years ago, but has been playing pretty well in recent weeks.

This week's St Jude Classic is the third event in Texas over the past month, and in the previous two McCarron performed very well, registering finishes of 17th in the Texas Open, and fourth in the Byron Nelson Championship. Seven of McCarron's eight rounds in those two events were below 70. Furthermore, Southwind is a course where he has prospered before, finishing third in 2001.

Forty-three-year-old McCarron also very much fits the profile of a St Jude Classic winner, a tournament repeatedly dominated by experienced, US players, often at a big price. The winners in 2006 and 2007, Jeff Maggert and Woody Austin were also both in their 40s, and you have to go back nine years to find a winner under the age of 30. The other key characteristic of all recent winners at Southwind is that they were all very accurate drivers. In his last two events, McCarron has ranked first and third for this stat.
