Can Ryan Palmer pull out the big win he needs?
"It is almost a year to the day since Palmer headed to the Ginn Sur Mer Classic desperately needing a big pay-cheque, before showing tremendous nerve to lead all the way from the opening day and save his career at the highest level."
This Texan is used to performing at the business end of the season and rates a decent bet at the Viking Classic, says Paul Krishnamurty
As I've written in today's other article, the single most important clue towards golf betting in recent weeks has been to look for players in dire need of a good result in order to retain full playing privileges for next season. Of the numerous potential candidates still outside the top-125 on the PGA Tour money list, the best pick in my view is a man who has proven he can get the job done when under this kind of pressure before, Ryan Palmer.
It is almost a year to the day since Palmer headed to the Ginn Sur Mer Classic desperately needing a big pay-cheque, before showing tremendous nerve to lead all the way from the opening day and save his career at the highest level. This is clearly the Texan's favourite time of year, as his other PGA Tour victory also came at the end of the season, in the 2004 FUNAI Classic.
The reason for that probably owes something to the fact that most tournaments at this stage of the year are low-scoring affairs, as the most significant aspect of Palmer's profile is that he always ranks near the head of the birdie conversion stats.
Palmer's odds of [210.0] also look out of line when considering that he isn't completely devoid of recent form, having finished fifth in the Reno-Tahoe Open. Furthermore, Palmer has already shown a liking for this week's course, Annandale, when finishing second in the 2004 Southern Farm Bureau Classic.
