Very often, the key to finding big-priced value is identifying players who are good enough to win, but on the drift after a short bad spell. Promising young Spaniard Rafael Cabrera-Bello perfectly fits this criteria, and is fancied at [120.00] for this week's BMW International Open.

With the possible exception of Gareth Maybin, Cabrera-Bello looks the best of last year's Challenge Tour graduates. Prior to this season, he'd shown the occasional bit of promise at this higher level, but in 2009 he seems to have started making the kind of progress that many good judges expected of him. His first 11 starts this year yielded eight top-20 finishes, including three top-sixes.

However, since making that top-20 mark four weeks in a row during April and May, Rafael has slipped back since with three missed cuts. Hence these big odds. Those disappointments don't particularly deter me from backing him now though, as one would expect any young player to have to endure such bad patches. The bigger picture is that Cabrera-Bello possesses a top-class long game, and is well capable of winning at this level, especially in low scoring conditions. The BMW venue, Golfclub Munchen Eichenried, should be perfect.
