A poor field has assembled at Club de Campo for the Madrid Masters so why not take them on with a up-and-coming youngster at an enormous price?
Trying to find outsiders with unarguably strong claims in this week's Madrid Masters is like looking for a needle in a haystack. This must be the weakest field ever to gather at Club de Campo for a Euro Tour event, and consequently anyone in triple figures is going to have doubts over their most recent form.
Most in that price range are perennial losers, so rather than picking one of them I'm going for an emerging player with a big future, former English Amateur champion Paul Waring. The 23-year-old from Birkenhead has enjoyed an excellent first season on the European Tour, and this week's conditions represent an ideal opportunity to achieve his best result to date. Certainly odds of [210.0] look worth a nibble.
Seven top-10 finishes is a useful return for someone so inexperienced, and have earned Waring many plaudits from judges with one eye on the future. His statistics suggest he's ideally suited by courses that offer extra reward to the longer hitters, a trend that has consistently applied to Club de Campo over several years.
Furthermore, low scoring looks certain to be the order of the day, so it must bode well that Waring has scored very highly in the 'birdie average' stats all year.
