Michael Allen is playing some of the best golf of his life at present
"If he can contend at places like Torrey Pines, Allen should have no concerns about Pebble Beach. Experienced, older players tend to do well here, with seven of the ten players to register a top-five finish in the past two years over the age of 40"
Paul Krishnamurty goes about his usual business of trying to find a golfer who can win this week at odds of 100/1 or greater.
Following on from a pair of wins by forty-somethings over the weekend, Michael Allen looks a decent value punt at [150.0] to strike a blow for the over-fifties at the Pebble Beach pro-am.
Fifth place amongst world-class company on his penultimate start at Torrey Pines, one of the longest courses in the world, shows age has not withered Allen's talents. In fact, he appears to be improving with age. Since achieving instant success upon entering the Champions Tour by winning last year's Seniors PGA, Allen has looked in better form than for at least a decade. He's confirmed that in recent interviews, stressing how happy he is with both golf and life in general.
If he can contend at places like Torrey Pines, Allen should have no concerns about Pebble Beach. Experienced, older players tend to do well here, with seven of the ten players to register a top-five finish in the past two years over the age of 40. His tournament record isn't bad either, making three of the last four top-25s when never in quite this current level of form.
