"Solid from tee to green and an excellent scrambler, Luiten has the tools to cope with the Crans Sur Sierre layout."
Injuries have knocked this formerly flying Dutchman but having made the weekend in 13 consecutive tournaments the time is ripe for involvement at the business end of a Sunday on the European Tour
After the emotional rollercoaster of Gleneagles, several of the market principals at this week's European Masters could be forgiven a slight drop in performance level, and that could very well open things up for an outsider. One player I've had my eye on for a while is Joost Luiten, currently trading around [140.0].
Luiten carried a big reputation into his professional career, being mentioned alongside the likes of Rory McIlroy when finishing runner-up at the 2007 KLM Open, on one of his earliest European Tour starts. He's had his moments since, but a long injury layoff during 2008 and 2009 meant he was never able to put together a consistent run until this year. Things are certainly looking up if 13 consecutive cuts are anything to go by, and a breakthrough win remains well within his compass.
Solid from tee to green and an excellent scrambler, Luiten has the tools to cope with the Crans Sur Sierre layout. Whatever happens this week, he is also worth looking out for next week, as the tour schedule moves on to Holland, and Luiten's national open.
