Buoyed be an autumn of unqualified success, Paul Krishnamurty holds his breath for a clean sweep...
Another week on the PGA Tour Fall Series, another triple-figure priced winner. Furthermore, Ryan Palmer was the sixth consecutive winner to start the week on or below 125th place on the money list, and therefore extra motivated to save their card. So going into the final event of the season, one more winner in either category would make it a clean sweep throughout the entire autumn series.
At odds of [110.0], my pick is the man currently in 149th place, PGA Tour veteran John Huston. The 47-year-old will need a very big week to move into the top 125, finishing at least third, but on last week's evidence he's up to the task. Huston held the joint lead going down the stretch in Sunday's Ginn Sur Mer Classic, before an expensive late bogey ruined his chance. The resulting seventh place was his best finish of the season, but he hasn't played badly during the summer and has only missed one cut since March.
Back in the day, Huston was a leading player in the States. In total, he's won nine professional tournaments, the last of which was in 2003. One of those came at this week's venue, Magnolia, back in 1998 in one of the previous guises of this Disney-related event. The key on these resort courses has always been amassing plenty of birdies, which always was Huston's forte. Though he may not be the player he was five or so years ago, he is still something of a birdie-machine, ranking third in 'birdie average' over the last six months.
