Nationwide Tour graduate has made a solid start to his PGA career and a win at a big price could be round the corner...
Well after Shane Lowry's unbelievable 999/1 success, we now know anything really is possible in golf. Nevertheless, as tempting as it may be to rip up the formbook completely, this week's selection is a far more plausible candidate at the comparatively 'skinny' odds of just [180.0].
Jeff Klauk has made a decent start to his PGA Tour career. A relatively late developer at the age of 31, Klauk is enjoying his first season at the higher level, and currently sitting at 48th on the money list, seems certain to have little trouble retaining full playing privileges. He's missed only two cuts, and 14th at Sawgrass last time out was his fourth top-15 of the season.
With his card secure, the next target is to win his maiden title, adding to two previously gained on the Nationwide Tour. Klauk's results and stats strongly suggest that if a win is to come, it will be on a course where driving accuracy is favoured. Las Colinas, long-term home to this week's Byron Nelson Championship, is one such venue. Analysis of previous results consistently shows that accurate driving is as important here as almost any other US course.
In his 14 events so far in 2009, Klauk has ranked in the top-10 for driving accuracy in half of them, including first at Sawgrass, and been outside the top-25 in that stat only three times. A further slight boost to his chance may lie in the fact that the last time Klauk played in Texas, he finished runner-up.
