Jaco Van Zyl is a big price at 140
"It's pretty rare, especially in such a low-grade tournament, that such a price is available about a player who has won in the last year, let alone somebody who's won twice. There's certainly no element of fluke about either victory, as Van Zyl has now won five Sunshine Tour events and registered a series of decent finishes in 2009."
Another golf season begins and Paul Krishnamurty continues to search for the big priced value, this week in the Africa Open
The opening Race to Dubai event of 2010 has failed to capture the imagination of Europe's leading players, leaving a distinctly second-rate affair.
Only seven of this field are currently inside the top-150 of the world rankings, with nobody higher than 66th. In effect, this is barely a higher standard than the average Sunshine Tour event. Form at that level therefore deserves plenty of respect, and several prominent Sunshine Tour regulars take the eye at triple-figure odds to capitalise on home advantage.
Odds of [140.0] about Jaco Van Zyl could rate the best bet. It's pretty rare, especially in such a low-grade tournament, that such a price is available about a player who has won in the last year, let alone somebody who's won twice. There's certainly no element of fluke about either victory, as Van Zyl has now won five Sunshine Tour events and registered a series of decent finishes in 2009. From 23 starts last year, he landed ten top-tens and a further six top-20s, including a respectable 15th place in this event. So while he can boast no pedigree whatsoever on the world stage, Van Zyl must warrant plenty of respect at home.
