Brett Rumford has put together some strong performances this season

"Brett Rumford has already finished second, third and fourth in events this year, which is better than most triple-figured outsiders could boast."

Rank outsiders have won the last two renewals of the Irish Open, but if Brett Rumford were to keep the run going at odds of [120.0], it would barely register as a shock by comparison. After all Rumford has already won this title in 2004, and was in contention on Sunday. In contrast, defending champion Shane Lowry was a little-known amateur, unconsidered even at the maximum odds of [1000.0].

Besides Sunday's fourth place, Rumford's case revolves around the weather, and the forecast of strong winds materialising. Like many Aussies who developed their games on exposed, sandbelt courses, Rumford is much more effective when the wind gets up. Indeed, when he won this title at County Louth, conditions were very difficult in that regard.

His wider profile points to an inconsistent character who often pops up in contention at big prices. He's already finished second, third and fourth in events this year, which is better than most triple-figured outsiders could boast. Likewise, while Rumford's career return of three European Tour titles is merely average, because his odds were big on each occasion, his regular followers may well be showing a profit.

Hi George, thanks for following me, I will continue to do my best for you!

To be honest, I think it just requires patience. I've already gone agonisingly close three times this year - Rickie Fowler, Jamie Donaldson and worst of all, Robert Allenby at Sawgrass. At these odds,it only takes the one winner to pay for two years worth of bets. Alternatively, if trading their price in-running, each would have yielded a substantial profit.

Anyway, I've got four picks at the Bridgestone so perhaps this is the week!
