Adam Scott of Australia was taking nothing for granted despite holding a three-shot lead going into the final round of the St Jude Championship in Memphis.
The 26-year, who is the overwhelming 1.48 favourite in Betfair's outright winner market, carded his third straight 68 to end the day nine under ahead of Americans David Toms (66) and Brian Gay (70).
Toms and Gay are trading at 6 and 18 respectively to triumph at the tournament in Tennessee, which is without world number one Tiger Woods, as he prepares for next week's US Open at Oakmont and the injured Phil Mickelson. US Open champion Geoff Ogilvy missed the cut.
Woody Austin was five under while Britain's Brian Davis kept up his challenge with a 68 for four under and fifth place.
Scott, however, who won the Houston Open in April, refused to get carried away and insisted he would not be cracking open the champagne just yet.
"Three shots is nothing, really," said Scott.
"That's a couple-hole turnaround out there. There's plenty of trouble to get in on this golf course."
World number four Scott is also available to back as the 1.06 favourite in the Top 5 Finish market.
