Angel Cabrera was the surprise winner of the 107th US Open but admitted that the Oakmont course beat him.
The world number 44 held off the challenge of Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk to become the first Argentinian player to win a Major since Roberto de Vincenzo won the Open Championship in 1967.
Cabrera shot a one-under-par 69 on Sunday to leave him on +5 to win the event by one shot, with Woods and Furyk finished on +6. Sweden's Niclas Fasth was the top European player, finishing two shots behind the winner.
Despite being delighted at his victory, the 37-year-old was slightly frustrated that he wasn't able to tame the tough Oakmont course.
Cabrera admitted: "I was able to be the best player and beat the best players here, but I wasn't able to beat the golf course, the golf course beat me."
Speaking about the final day, he added: "After Saturday, I knew today I had to play in par or better to have a chance.
"I feel great. It's a great moment for me. I can't believe it. I am taking this (the trophy) to my bed. This is going to sleep with me."
Cabrera is now looking towards the Open Championship, with the Argentinian ace now trading at 40 to claim an Open double at Carnoustie - which starts on July 19.
