Jim Furyk and Phil Mickelson are the joint leaders on -12 at the halfway stage of the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in California.
Mickelson had been sharing the lead after round one and followed up his opening 65 with a 67 on Friday.
Meanwhile, Furyk birded two of his last three holes to fire a seven-under-par round of 65 to join his fellow Ryder Cup star at the top of the pile - three shots ahead of the field.
Having recently moved up to second in the world rankings, Furyk is now targeting more tournament victories.
The 2003 US Open champion said: "My world ranking has crept up a lot recently. I think it's a reflection on how well I've been playing, but it's not what I'm really striving for.
"I'd rather win golf tournaments and try to get better."
Kevin Sutherland shot the round of the day, with his 63 putting him tied with John Mallinger on -9. Davis Love III and Australia's Mark Hensby are a further two shots back on -7.
England's Greg Owen has kept in touch with the challengers with a 69 on Friday leaving him on six-under-par, but Luke Donald is well down the field on +6.
Betfair punters see Mickelson as the slight favourite to land the title, with the left-hander trading at 2.76. Furyk is available at 2.98 while Love III is available at 19.5.
Californian Sutherland can be backed at 20, while Owen is trading at 70.
