Stricker a winner once more
American matched at 95 before stunning just about everyone with birdie blitz
Many golfers go their entire careers without winning a tour event while many put together long winless streaks which they never look like breaking until a victory comes out of the blue.
Steve Stricker is not that kind of golfer. The American veteran has been sniffing around the winner's enclosure for a long time with a succession of top finishes without quite getting there.
So it was easy to see why he could be backed at 95 prior to a dramatic triumph at the Barclays Classic in Westchester, New York.
With Korean star KJ Choi two shots ahead clear going into the final stretch, the 40-year-old was going to have to do something dramatic to haul himself back into contention.
So that's what he did.
Four birdies across the last five holes fired him clear of the field to land the top prize. Choi had been backed into 1.33 to land the title, the first leg of the FedEx Cup.
Stricker has been matched at 50 to take the FedEx but is now backable at 17.
In Holland, England's Ross Fisher was matched at 110 before winning the KLM Open while home player Joost Luiten traded at a low of 2 to take the tournament. The 21-year-old Dutchman missed out on a playoff by one shot after Fisher birdied the 18th.
