Big-priced winners on both sides of the pond
There was bitter disappointment for young German Martin Kaymer and his backers on Betfair at the Scandinavian Masters.
Despite failing to make a decent putt all day, the rising star of German golf looked to have the title in his hands until an amazing comeback by Finn Mikko Illonen knocked him off his game and into the runners-up spots.
Leading by two shots with just two holes to play, Kaymer traded at 1.08 after touching a top price of 110 to win the event. His closest rival, Miko Ilonen, looked out of it when in the water on the 16th but a birdie on the 18th put Kaymer under real pressure.
Needing par to make a play-off on the short 18th, Kaymer made double bogey and Ilonen, matched at a Betfair high of 60, won the Scandinavian Masters - effectively the Finn's home tournament.
In the US, Brandt Snedeker was matched at 150 on Betfair during round two of the Wyndham Championship en route to winning his maiden PGA Tour event. The rookie, five strokes off the lead at the start of the day and available at around 32 before starting his final round, shot a blistering nine-under par 63 to win by two strokes.
Tim Petrovic, in contention all weekend, was matched at a low of 2.44.
