Scottish Football
Scottish Football- What's the point?
Pablo Luna - Moonlighting for Betfair
Can anyone tell me what is the point of Scottish Football?
The amount of media time spent on football north of the border is not warranted. I am not the slightest bit interested in East Fife v Forfar or Clydebank v Patrick Thistle, it means absolutely nothing to me and is an irrelevance. We should treat Scottish Football with the same interest as Norwegian Football.... Zilch!
Yes, yes, yes - I know it helps with the Football Pools like the Australian Football in the summer but what else does it offer? Visually it is a mistake strewn, of little skill, hurry-scurry game which tactically when up against European sides, is found wanting by a distance!
From the time I saw Willie Johnstone, National hero in Scotland, scampering down the wing, (not actually doing anything just scampering down the wing) to the present time, they have offered virtually nothing to International Football.
Celtic and Rangers are of similar ability to Portsmouth or West Ham United. The rest are on a par to our Championship, League 1 and League 2.
Occasionally they have produced a great player. I fondly remember watching Jim 'The Pass' Baxter - what a player! Kenny 'Happy Chappy' Dalglish, Dennis 'The Leap' Law and Alan 'Snooty Nose' Hansen, now those were great players! Gordon Strachan, Gordon McQueen, Bruce Rioch, Billy Bremner and Joe Jordan were in a class above good but way below great.
But when did Scotland last produce a great player? In recent years not one Scottish player could be called world class.
And I am fed up of hearing about Celtic beating Internaziale 2-1 in the 1967 European Cup. That was 40 years ago. A very distant memory indeed!
I bet I can predict this years first and second in the Scottish Premier League- 'The Old Firm'. I can predict in five years time the first and second - 'The Old Firm' and in twenty years time - 'The Old Firm' because there are only two teams in their league. Occasionally Dundee might win a cup.
Currently we can find Celtic (130 with Betfair) and Rangers (310 with Betfair) to win the Champions League. Lay them - they cannot possibly win! What we in the trade call "money for old rope!"
A sure fire winner is to bet against them in the Champions League in the next rounds and should they get lucky in that one, increase your stake and bet against them in the next. I will be laying them for sure (the same way I lay Tim Henman every year at Wimbledon and win).
I have no objection to individuals like Charlie Nicholas plying his trade in England but wonder what the point of their league is. I actually feel sorry for Scottish Football Supporters, they have been starved of competitive football...
England has its problems but can still produce World-Class footballers, Scotland cannot! Lets get rid of their League and form a Northern Division to League One. Let's help bring Scottish Football into the 21st century.
