Border Reiver with his best bets from north of the border
Berwick progressed through to the next round of the Challenge Cup on Tuesday with a hard fought victory over Albion Rovers. Nine changes from last Saturdays starting eleven meant it would be a very difficult game and so it proved with the tie being decided on penalties. Next round is an away tie with Partick Thistle. This Saturday we face Airdrie at home. Airdrie had a very comfortable away win (6-0) at Alloa last week and must start as clear favourites on Saturday. With the return to the usual starting line up I expect us to give them a good game and hopefully we can get at least a draw.
This weekend's fixture list has thrown up nothing obvious in terms of value but I think I have found a couple of games in the Third Division which should be of interest.
Montrose look very good value to win at Stranraer. Their best player, John Baird, has started to find the back of the net. Two last week against Elgin and a midweek hat trick against Stirling Albion prove he is a cut above this level and providing he is fit he should be able to help Montrose to a win against a very inconsistent Stranraer.
My next selection is East Stirling. This week they are at home to Forfar. East Stirling have beaten Dumbarton twice in seven days and came from two goals down last Saturday to win 3-2. They have scored seven goals in two games and should be able to outscore a Forfar team lacking in confidence. Forfar did manage a home win against East Fife on Tuesday but they had to go into extra time to clinch victory and those extra thirty minutes will be felt on Saturday.
I am backing Montrose around 3.3 and East Stirling around 2.3.
