Pablo Luna - Moonlighting for Betfair
The Bling Disease - this time West Ham United and the 'Footballers of Bling' get a broadside.
Is there anyone else like me who would love West Ham United to be relegated this season - currently trading at 9.8 with Betfair. (Derby are trading at 1.55 and look bankers to go down. Put your spare cash on them now, after ten games they will be 1.25 and I predict the very worse for them).
In the past I have always admired West Ham's philosophy of playing football and producing great footballers but that has long gone. I am not sure when it started going wrong but it has now got full-blown Bling disease! There is no cure for Bling Disease! It is in the blood and contaminates everything it touches. You have to treat it as a cancer, remove it - at source if you can - then throw it away and clean your hands before starting again!
I think of Brian Clough and wonder what he would have made of the shenanigans at West Ham last season. Can you imagine what he would have done regarding the Blingites? The West Ham side of last season seemed to be riddled with them - Nigel Reo Coker, Anton Ferdinand, Shaun Newton, Marlon Harewood and Bobby Zamora and even Teddy 'the Icon' Sheringham - all were showing some symptoms.
I remember Alan Pardew masticating on his chewing gum while being interviewed after yet another defeat and attempting to justify the contempt the players had shown the fans. The players actually blamed the fans as one of the reasons for their woe. The self-pity and self-indulgence was sickening! Pardew went on to lose the dressing room to the Blingites and got what he deserved...
Cloughie would have heard Reo Coker telling everyone that he should be playing for Manchester United or Arsenal. Cloughie would have heard him say he was not wanted, despite being given the captain's armband and gaining international recognition.
Now Reo-Coker has signed for Aston Villa he says he's not a superstar nor a miracle worker and blames West Ham for this perceived view. Is he a potential troublemaker in the dressing room? Villa manager Martin O'Neill had better beware!
Anton Ferdinand seems just as bad. This is the brother who basks in his brother's lampshade! He lied to Curbishley - not a little porky but a whopper! He was partying in an American nightclub when supposedly in the Isle of Wight. The players had already been forbidden to leave the country after being given a four-day break (after losing 4-0 to Charlton).
He told journalists that it was 'ok' to go to nightclubs and party because it relieved the boredom! How can anyone with a six-figure plus bank account be bored? Tell that to the fans who pay to watch and see what they say! Cloughie would have gone berserk and clipped him round the ear. I am a Curbishley fan but he should have hammered Ferdinand
Not content with partying in nightclubs, he had a brush with the law after a scuffle in October last year! If he was bored why didn't he just practice penalties? I knew he would miss in the shoot out against Liverpool in the FA Cup Final of 2006 and I am glad he did!
He and Reo Coker are so overrated and it could be possible they've already had their best moments in the game.
Others showing signs of Bling Disease include Marlon Harewood who joins Reo-Coker at Villa. If I were Martin O'Neill dreaming of Europe - Villa are trading at 3.8 for a top six finish - I'd keep this pair separate at all times just in case they've brought any bling with them!
