Non-League Betting: X marks the spot
Non-league

Gary Boswell has closed his season-long portfolio by re-backing Luton at [11.0] after several lays at shorter prices. Green position all round....
Gary Boswell returns to his (so far) profitable strategy of backing three draws to level stakes this weekend - if one comes in, you're in profit. Gateshead v Chester is the first match on the list, read on to find out which are the other two...
"Gateshead are playing well and have announced an imminent move to full-time to fund their own fight against relegation but come as the lower rated side on my points table and can even that up with the home advantage making the draw the prime pick for me at 3.45 or greater."
" To draw a football game is really of no use to anyone. In life you need the motivational spur of either triumph or despair. "
So spoke the mad motivational speaker that I had to endure last week and I pointed out that the managers who invented the unbeaten-away-from-home approach to League championship winning would scarcely agree!
Chester City have pioneered that philosophy in BSP this season with a stunning six draws out of seven on the road - their only defeat coming at the hands of runaway leaders Oxford United. That they are not likely to be candidates for League champions and almost certainly consigned to the wooden spoon courtesy of a points deduction (they have decided it would be too expensive to try to overturn) does not put me off them making it seven out of eight as they visit the International Stadium at Gateshead this weekend.
Number one in three draw fancies as I go on that trail after the fixture list turned up a surprising zero X marks last Saturday. Some would use that as a spur to steer clear of draw selection but the reverse is true for me. None last Saturday means the law of averages will be evening up with a glut at some point soon. With the value involved in draw match betting and my pools panel predictive duties in forefront of mind, I'm a-sniffing on the draw trail for a while now!
Chester have not yet fired under Jim Harvey, who has been thusfar unable to ring the changes he requires and was dismayed at the red cards earned by Rule and Chadwick last weekend which cost the points against Rushden. Harvey is being positive though and can be trusted to start making the Blues ultra competitive as they seek to make the fight against the drop an on-pitch, rather than in courtroom, reality.
Gateshead are playing well and have announced an imminent move to full-time to fund their own fight against relegation but come as the lower rated side on my points table and can even that up with the home advantage making the draw the prime pick for me at [3.45] or greater.
Second best draw is Chester's conquerors of last weekend, Rushden & Diamonds, who are fancied by oddsmakers to see off a Tamworth side on a three game losing streak. That after the Lambs had drawn seven of their first thirteen games back in non-league top flight.
I fancy Gary Mills to stem the flow this weekend and return his troops to fortress tactics which served them well early season and have been abandoned of late in starting formation - a tactic that has backfired for him. No Lambs to the slaughter this weekend as long as Mills has Diamonds starlet Lee Tomlin targeted and contained. The [3.6] price looks long to me and is worth snaffling as part of the three level stakes approach that will see a profit on just one success.
Final pick is Altrincham-Luton at [3.5] or greater. The Robins drew four home games on the bounce as they stemmed their slide after an unusually excellent start to the season and have continued approaching in the mindset of 'we shall not be overcome'. They play without Doughty and Senior this Saturday which will blunt attacking options and force their tactical hand against a Hatters side doing ok since Harford exited but still unable to dominate as many expected in this division.
I closed my BSP portfolio satchel with an ultra green book exceedingly early thanks to being able to hedge back on the Hatters at [11.0] and it will be interesting to see if they are able to prove that a wise move by still going on to win the title from here.
They are without Hatch again for this one and will I think do well to win.
