Legendary Non-League manager Frank Gregan previews Grays Athletic's trip to Woking
There has certainly been a feast of goals in the last two televised conference matches. Five in each of them and both of them paying huge dividends in the correct score market for that magic "any other score" result. Both matches reached the golden four goal mark by one side and those of you following the season-long strategy of following any other score that I recommended earlier in the season must have your pockets full of gold!
The price for both results was in double figures and I continue to stress that managers love to be attacking when their sides are on the box and put on a show for the viewing public.
Everyone connected with Conference football knows how important it is to keep the live games contract and are determined to serve up the best possible product. Keep following any other score and a healthy profit should be made come the season's end.
Having said all of that, it's time to contradict and apply the golden rule of judging each game on its merits. Saturday's offering between Woking and Grays Athletic looks likely to be a low scoring affair. Woking have scored only nine times at home in nine games this season and even I did not have to reach for the calculator to work out that average.
Grays have only scored seven on the road in nine games and the fact that they have won four of those games and drawn three is indicative of how miserly their defence has been. I think that is the key factor, having only conceded 0.44 goals on average (I did have to reach for the calculator for that one) I can't see them rolling over as Oxford and Farsley did in the previous week. For that reason I am heading for the under and over market for this week's bet and looking to get a match at 2.0 for under 2.5 goals. I think that is a realistic price given Woking's home scoring record and Gray's defensive record away from home.
For those of you who prefer to throw your support wholeheartedly behind a team for 90 minutes, this is going to be a tough one to call. I have always had a soft spot for Grays, the last time I managed a side against them was two years ago. We beat them 2-1 at our place and they then went on an amazing three month unbeaten run. We played them towards the end of the season and their confidence was sky high. The score was 1-0 right up until injury time and we had our only opportunity of the game but my winger hit the post and Grays took the points.
If we had have got anything from that game they would have been within their rights to report us to the police, 14-0 to them would probably have been a fairer reflection of the game! It is though a smashing club with great people behind it and given their away record thus far this season I wouldn't put anyone off having a little wager at odds of 3.0 or better.

Frank, as you know I've been following non-league action for years and am well aware of your legendary status and have followed your column from inception. I think the under bet could work well in matches like this but I'm heading for any unquoted or over 4.5 goals as I'm on a roll with that strategy - thank you.
