"Total Goals Guys" talk us through this week's selections
Roy Keane makes his return to Old Trafford this Saturday evening as Sunderland take on Manchester United. The last time The Mackems played here on league business was Good Friday 2006 and the home side were on a winning streak stretching to almost a dozen games. The visitors were rock bottom of the league, out of form, out of luck and heading for a record lowest points total in Premiership history. One betfarian famously backed United in for £88,000 @ 1.10 in the match odds. The Red Devils hit everything but the back of the net that night and the unlucky punter only got himself out of jail by backing 0-0 for 10K in the correct score market @ 4.4 - Ok he still lost big time, but it could have been a lot worse and the first 45 minutes showed him enough to know that maybe it was going to be one of those days.
United have very nearly had two of those days at home so far this season and with the weight of that first win of the season off the shoulders after Sunday's victory over Tottenham we expect the hosts to get in amongst the goals here. Sunderland have been conceding heavily in the last few games and we quite fancy 2 goals or more in this one where 1.23 is available.
We're also on 2 goals or more at Anfield, Ibrox and the Camp Nou. Derby have conceded 12 goals in 4 outings so far and the visit to Liverpool is surely a daunting one for Billy Davies' men. Quite simply they have been woeful at the back and despite one third of Liverpool's home matches over the last 3 years finishing under 1.5 goals we fancy taking on 2 goals or more at the price of 1.24. Crouch, Kuyt, Voronin and Torres have all been amongst the goals recently and we expect this to continue.
Rangers host newly promoted Gretna as they look to extend their 100% domestic record this term. The newcomers have, like Derby in the Premiership, endured a rough early ride in the top flight, conceding 11 in their first 4 matches. Based on the last 59 league matches at Ibrox the true odds for 2 goals or more here is around 1.19 so when you consider the pedigree of the visitors and Rangers fine early season form we feel the current price of 1.16 is tight but worth taking on.
Athletic Bilbao visit Barcelona on Sunday evening. We talked of true odds in the SPL clash at Ibrox and here the true odds of 2 goals or more rings home at around 1.14 so we really fancy the 1.24 up for grabs here. Barca will be looking to avenge last week's goal drought at Racing Santander and the Catalan faithful will be eager for the season to be kick started in style.
In short the Bundesliga Total Goals market is baffling us at present. Whether it's poor liquidity at the time of writing or tight fisted layers we don't know but one thing is for sure and that's despite Bayern looking good thus far we won't be touching 1.05 for a goal here. NO BET.
Celtic faced 120 minutes of European action during the week and with Britain's European representatives suffering the odd hangover when returning to domestic action, especially on the road, that's enough reason for us to avoid the trip to Paisley for the clash with St. Mirren. NO BET.
We are also avoiding Real Madrid's visit to Villarreal on Sunday night. When betting in this market you just get a feeling that some games are more predictable than others in terms of goals and this definitely falls into the others category. Other games feel a lot safer. NO BET.
Pompey gave a very good account of themselves last week despite going down 1-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. 1.06 is available for a goal in their visit to Arsenal this week but we get the feeling the Gunners are long overdue a goalless draw at home and in search of better value we turn our attentions to Villa Park. Chelsea are the visitors on Sunday where the price of 1.08 looks more appealing for a goal. Chelsea know how to win football matches whilst Villa have conceded and scored in both their home games this season so we're confident enough that at least one of those trends continues.
