Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes has made a double swoop in the transfer market to snap up striker Maceo Rigters and goalkeeper Gunnar Nielsen in time for his club's foray into the Intertoto Cup.
The capture of NAC Breda striker Rigters, who has signed a four-year deal, is the major coup as the Dutch Under-21 star was wanted by Scottish champions Celtic as well as Championship side Norwich.
The striker recently won the Golden Boot at the European Under-21 Championships and is considered a big acquisition to a side which could be fighting in the UEFA Cup again - if they overcome a two-legged Intertoto tie later this month.
Rovers have also signed Frem Copenhagen keeper Nielsen for a small fee on a two-year deal, with the option of a further 12 months.
Nielsen told the club's official website: "I'm very pleased, it's a massive opportunity for me just to develop in the best league in the world.
"It's a great opportunity, I'm really looking forward to it.
"I'm glad that the manager and staff believe in me, I won't let them down."
Blackburn, also looking to improve upon last season's 10th place in the Premiership, are available at 7 in Betfair's Premiership - Top Six Finish market.
Local rivals Bolton are relatively unfancied at 10 to finish at least one place higher than last season, while former Trotters boss Sam Allardyce has gained favour for his Newcastle United side's chances - now rated 3.2 for the top six.
Betfair punters make Everton (4.4), Aston Villa (4.5) and West Ham (6.6) contenders for the certain European competition qualifying positions, while last season's top five clubs are all odds-on.
