Birmingham matched at 100 in comeback against Spurs plus the best of the rest of the Premiership's action
A match report that includes the entry "R. Keane sent off for a dangerous challenge" isn't a particularly unusual sight as far as Premiership football has gone over the years. But when the R in question is Robbie rather than Roy, this becomes far more uncommon. And the Spurs' captain's dismissal against Birmingham yesterday afternoon was probably the match's defining moment in an incident-filled match.
Gary McSheffrey opened the scoring for Birmingham, who had Alex McCleish in charge for the first time. Available at [9] at the start of the match, they traded at [2.62] when they went into the break a goal up. The aforementioned Keane scored twice after the break to put the home side ahead at which point they traded at [1.14]. With half an hour left on the clock, Birmingham drifted to odds of [100] before Cameron Jerome levelled the scores with a neat finish. Keane was then dismissed for a challenge on Muamba that was late but not malicious but it was 10-man Spurs who continued to press forward and Defoe was unlucky not to score.
But it will have been McCleish who will have enjoyed his post-match glass of red wine the most after Sebastian Larsson scored the winner with a stunning drive deep into injury time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2REWF-V9N8, at which point the Blues were available at [10]. 3-2 correct score was matched at [100]. These three invaluable points have caused Birmingham to drift out to [4] on the relegation market, the longest odds they have been for the drop all season.
Elsewhere, Joe Cole spared Chelsea's blushes by scoring against his old club West Ham after Chelsea hit [2.32] which leaves Chelsea still very much in contention for the title - they are trading at [5.8]. Blackburn recovered well after going a goal down against Newcastle and can thank the talented David Bentley, who chipped in with two fine efforts before Tugay added a late third. Blackburn hit [7.2] when trailing by a goal.
Despite scoring in injury-time, Sunderland surprisingly never went higher than [6.4] against in beating Derby. They are now [3.85] for the drop, having been matched at [7.2] earlier on in the season.
