Managers getting sacked is just part of the game, says Ben Davies

Ben scored a superb free-kick at the weekend against Torquay but it wasn't enough to save Ian McParland's job.

After yet another eventful week at Meadow Lane, Ben Davies gives us his views on outgoing manager Ian McParland, the candidates to suceed him and why Craig Bellamy would always be welcome at Notts.

Hello to you all again in a week that has been another very eventful one at Meadow Lane.

As you will all probably know, we have just lost our manager Ian McParland. When the news was broken to us on Monday it came as a big shock to everyone. It was very disappointing news for all the lads, as we all loved our manager and he was responsible for bringing most of the current squad, including myself, to the club.

Not only was he a very good manager but he was a top bloke too. After being sacked on Monday he set up a meeting with the players and management staff on the Tuesday to say thank you and goodbye. Throughout my career, I have seen many managers leave, but I have never witnessed the whole room give a manager a standing ovation as he walked out of the dressing room. That for me speaks volumes of the man. He leaves the club in a very good position, sitting just four points off top, in fifth position. We wish him all the best.

Assuming the postal service is up and running again, of course! There have been a number of high profile managers linked with the position. Those names include the likes of David Platt, Peter Taylor, Alan Curbishley and Roberto Mancini. It is certainly going to be interesting to see who will take over in the hot seat and at the moment I can't say I have any preferences as regards who I'd like to see get the job.

The temporary charge of the team has been given to youth team manager, Michael Johnson, and our assistant manager David Kevan. They have both done a great job this week in keeping the lads focused and away from all the publicity surrounding the club. The pair have been given full charge of proceedings for the next week including this weekend's game against Rotherham United. The lads are all looking forward to the game and hopefully getting a good result for Jonno and Dave.

On the international front, I was pleased to see England bounce back with a win in midweek after their defeat On Saturday. I was also pleased to see Wales get a good 2-0 win away to Liechtenstein. It was an even better result considering their captain (and best player) Craig Bellamy was missing due to suspension. Bellamy has been on fire lately and cannot stop scoring for both club and country. He is constantly featured in the press and given a hard time for outbursts on and off the field, but his ability cannot be doubted. He loves the game, is a very exciting player to watch and a handful for any defender. I know we'd have him at Notts any day of the week!

Bellamy takes me on to this week's bet and the Wigan v Manchester City game in which I'm sure Craig will feature. I am going to predict the half time score will be 1-1 at odds of [8.0] and I also like the full-time draw at [3.75].
