Alan Dudman invites you to join him at the mini-bar of League One bets.
I have just returned from a night in a hotel - one of those corporate thingys you
understand - and had no less than five hours sleep. Dudders is grumpy!
A couple of questions. Since when was it hotel protocol and common practice
to slam every door between the hours of 6am and 7am? Why do the cleaners
knock and then walk in knowing full well you're asleep? Only they know.......
Several interesting markets emerged on my travels. I steamed in to the 'overs'
on door slams - and counted at least 33 in the space of an hour. I also backed
the three business people in a match bet against the noisy family next door
on slams....the latter won hands down. Should have backed them in the asian
handicap too.
And my final bet this morning was on the ' will Alan make breakfast market?'. Seeing
as it is now de riguer to set the times of the meal between 4:59am to 5:01 am,
the prices of 'yes' 999 and 'no' 1.02 was literally like finding a lady (godiva).
Anyway, some more interesting markets are on offer this week and you've
guessed it - I'll be laying Hereford during this weekend's offerings in League One, but more on them later.
We'll start with Leeds . It is they who entertain the rapidly improving
Bristol Rovers on Saturday in what looks the best game of the day. Gary
McAllister's side appear way too short at [1.64] to take the points, as their form is
patchy to say the least.
Despite the 4-0 beating of Palace in the Carling Cup, their league form is
unimpressive. Home defeat to Oldham and a draw at Yeovil does not make
them a banker for me, I'll be laying Leeds at that price all day long.
I think it may also be worth throwing a couple of quid (perhaps that lady?) at
Bristol Rovers winning at [5.65]. Way too big a price! The Gas couldn't defend
in their opening day defeat against Carlisle, but have since sorted themselves
out at the back.
Paul Trollope's side also have goals in them too. Rickie Lambert is on fire,
Daryl Duffy is a perfect foil, and they could also be signing little Jo Kuffour
from Bournemouth this week. I actually quite fancy them to get a result at
Elland Road, and maybe that title price of [60.00] is just a touch
on the large side.
From the top we head to the bottom and off to sarf London for what the over-
hype merchants would call a relegation battle. Millwall (third from bottom) hostHuddersfield (second from bottom) in what could well be one of the worst games
this weekend, and in that I mean all forms of football.
I took a bit of a chance last weekend backing the Lions at Northampton, but the more I look at them, the more I see they are struggling for goals. I think their
position is a touch false as they are probably a bit better than they have shown.
But goals are the commodity (unless of course you are a trader dealing in
sugar beet and iron ore) and I think their forward line is a bit powder puff.
Huddersfield are yet to win, and have hit the net only twice in three games.
Goals will be rare on Saturday and they layers have this about right in calling
the under 2.5 goals at [1.74]. The value is most certainly in the 0-0 which
could be trading at around [11.51]. However, I for one won't be Sky plussing
the highlights.
Which reminds me...I went in to the barbers the other day and asked for some
highlights. He gave me a video tape of some old haircuts. (Send complaints
via Betfair).
Rock-bottom Hereford United entertain Crewe this weekend, my message is to lay the home side at [2.4] . The Bulls were hammered last Saturday by Bristol
Rovers and confidence will be rock bottom (even their reserves were beaten 7-1
this week).
The Alex have momentum, although I think they are poor at the back, their
last two games have yielded victories and they should win at Edgar Street.
Hereford have lost three games 2-1 this season already, whilst Crewe have
recorded that very scoreline in their previous two games. Correct scoreline
of 1-2 is interesting at [12.00].
Finally, title-chasers Leicester City look good at [2.11] to dispose of Cheltenham,
whilst Oldham to win 1-3 [32.00] and 2-3 [42.00] at Colchester appeals.
