Cup progress has had a positive impact on Chesterfield's league form
Jonno Turner is backing Chesterfield to deliver for him again this evening, while he fancies Brighton to continue their charge towards the Championship play-offs...
I'm currently hiding in the shed. I forgot to get my girlfriend a Valentine's Day present. It's not my fault though, I thought it was cancelled... 14-02-12 = 0, surely?
She was expecting something big today, but like I said, I'll be out with the wife, so she'll have to make do with a text.
Valentine's Day has never been the same for me since I was a kid. I used a handwriting identification kit to decipher that Santa had been the one sending me all those love cards for the last few years.
As if just to test those in a relationship, there's a full calendar of Football League fixtures in England this evening. That's 35 games to take your mind off Valentine's! And for our first tip today we're focussing on The Championship, as Brighton welcome Millwall to the Amex Stadium.
The hosts have have enjoyed an excellent first season back in the second tier, and currently occupy eighth place in the table, with a real chance of breaking into the play-off positions. And Gus Poyet's side could make it ten games unbeaten with a positive result here, following six wins and three draws.
Millwall travel to the south coast on a miserable run of just one league win in seven which has seen them lose five and draw one, leaving the Lions teetering above the relegation zone. A five-point gap currently cushions Kenny Jackett's side from the mire, but with Nottingham Forest looking to be on the up, the Londoners will be desperate for points.
But just two wins in 15 away league games indicates that Millwall may struggle as they travel to the home of the Seagulls, who have been in such formidable home form of late. Brighton could jump as high as fourth if results go their way this evening, and that should spur Poyet's side on.
The hosts have lost just once in their last five encounters with Millwall, and I think this fixture will provide another three points for them tonight.
Bet 1: Brighton (HOME) to win @ [2.08]
This Valentine's Day my girlfriend is going to be made up! Not because of the gifts I bought her, just because she doesn't exist.
We're dropping down a division to League One for our next pick, and off to Gigg Lane as Chesterfield travel to Bury, who sit 11th in the table, but have been slightly off-colour of late, and have secured just one win in four games.
Richie Barker's side lost 3-0 to Rochdale two weeks ago, who were bottom of the league at the time, and with 10 conceded in their last five outings, it seems that the Shakers may not be fully comfortable at the back.
It's getting serious for Chesterfield now as they continue to prop up the rest of the table with just 17 games left. John Sheridan's side have played a game more than their nearest rivals Rochdale, which means that wins are a must.
But the Spireites have shown great improvement of late. A handful of impressive signings in January has galvanised the Derbyshire side, and they have only lost one of their last six games in all competitions - a defeat that came away at Carlisle in the dying moments of the match.
Four wins in five, and a trip to Wembley booked for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final in March, have given Sheridan's men much confidence in recent weeks and there is real belief that they can escape the Grim Reaper this season, with the clock ticking.
Chesterfield have lost just one in four against Bury, and this is a key game for the visitors. I believe that they could nick another three points tonight.
Bet 2: Chesterfield (AWAY) to win @ [3.7]
