Dirk Kuyt can't bear to look as Liverpool slump to fourth consecutive defeat
Anfield woes continue as Liverpool go down to fourth straight defeat leaving Champions League qualification in doubt
"Nou Camp and Barca backers watched in horror as the heavily favoured home team went behind, levelled and then conceded again to record one of the most unexpected Champions League results ever."
Liverpool's season of turmoil continued tonight with a rare European defeat in front of the Anfield faithful.
Rafa Benitez's men were backed at [1.25] to seal three valuable Champions League points after opening up a first half lead against Lyon.
But rather than marching on the Reds were pegged back and finally broken when the French outfit scored in the 91st minute. That saw in-running bets of [42.0] on a Lyon win landed with the home side given little time to pull a goal back. The final score of 1-2 was backed at [50.0].
Liverpool have been backed at [1.02] to qualify from Group E but are now nine points behind leaders and three behind Fiorentina. Their next game in the group is at Lyon.
The biggest shock of the night came at Barcelona where the European champions were beaten by Russian underdogs, Rubin Kazan.
The Nou Camp and Barca backers watched in horror as the heavily favoured home team went behind, levelled and then conceded again to record one of the most unexpected Champions League results ever.
Accordingly, given the scale of the upset, a succession of long priced bets came in.
Rubin Kazan were backed at [50.0] simply to win the game with £1,344 matched at the price, while the final score of 1-2 touched a high of [170.0] on Betfair. A half-time/full-time result for Rubin Kazan was matched at [110.0].
Barca were a confident selection for the short price backers, touching [1.1] on the exchange.
The shortest losing price of the night came in Holland however, where a last second AZ Alkmaar goal earned a point for the home team. Arsenal had touched [1.02] on Betfair before that point.
Inter Milan were another side who failed in front of their home fans when they were held to a 2-2 draw by Dynamo Kiev.
Jose Mourinho's side were backed at a low of [1.39] while the final score touched [28.0].
There were plenty of goals at Ibrox, sadly for the home fans all but one came from the away side - Romanian opponents Unirea Urziceni running rampant with four unanswered goals after an opener from the Glaswegians. Rangers were matched at [1.25] to win after taking the lead while five goals or more was backed at [12.5].
There were even more goals in Hungary where Fiorentina and Debrecen had a shootout, which the Italians edged 4-3. Seven goals or more was backed at [50.0].
