The "Total Goals Guys" share their weekend selections with us
Goodison Park witnesses the Merseyside derby at lunch time on Saturday. Both sides have struggled for consistency of late and a derby day victory could be just the catalyst to kick start their respective seasons. A 0-0 at Anfield back in February aside this fixture has produced an average of 3 goals a game in the past 3 years and if it wasn't for the fact a lot of the players have been playing abroad for their countries in mid-week we would have fancied a dabble at the 1.45 on offer for a duo here. However 1.1 is a reasonably good price for 1 goal or more and we're happy to settle for that.
Based on records going back to the start of the 2004/05 SPL season the statistical price for 2 goals or more in a league match at Ibrox should be around 1.24. A couple of goals in Saturday's first Old Firm clash of the season pays out @ 1.4. The fact its such a big game plays into the price inflation here but when you consider that early season contests between the sides are often quite open affairs and the fact that only one of the last 6 league encounters down Edmiston Drive has finished up with less than 2 goals 1.4 looks appealing.
We are also looking for 2 goals at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon where managerless Bolton pay league leaders Arsenal a visit. Nicolas Anelka is struggling to make it for Wanderers whilst Eduardo da Silva is expected to step into The Gunners forward line to replace the injured Robin Van Persie who is out with a knee injury. Thomas Rosicky returns for the hosts in what looks like a home banker for the long list this weekend. 1.25 is on offer for 2 or more goals here which is only marginally lower than the price for an Arsenal win, here you are covered for the freak 1-1 draw.
Chelsea travel to Middlesbrough on Saturday seeking their first victory at the Riverside in 3 years. They are a different proposition under Avram Grant, of that there is little doubt but the home side are lacking quality this season and with Frank Lampard back in the side there is scope for a couple of goals here. 1.39 is slightly above what we would deem to be reasonable and is well worth taking on.
Manchester United's tea-time trip to Villa Park rounds up this week's picks where we foresee a rather open affair. The Midlands side have scored in every home game this season, were unlucky to go down 2-1 to Liverpool on the opening day of the season and have recently defeated Chelsea on their own patch by 2 goals to nil. It will not be easy for United but they are hitting a little bit of form and have a decent record here having not dropped a single premiership point at Villa Park since August 2001. We fancy both teams to score and again feel the price of 1.4 is a little inflated and hence worth a go here.
