Tottenham agree deal for World Cup star

They already have six fully qualified centre backs plus Vedran Corluka and Tom Huddlestone in their squad, however the struggle to keep at least two fit at a time has forced Tottenham to add another centre back to their squad, SuperSport United's Bongani Khumalo.

The 23-year-old South African defender started all three of his countries games at the World Cup, even finding the net in their shock victory over France and will head to White Hart Lane in January when the transfer window reopens for a fee of around £1.5 million, provided he is granted a work permit.

The signing of Khumalo indicates that Jonathan Woodgate's attempts to recover from a groin injury that has kept him out since last November are not proving successful.

The former Leeds United centre back was left out of Tottenham's 25-man squad because of the long-standing problem and presumably won't be readmitted in January.
