Squad lists - what was all the fuss about?

After weeks of newspaper speculation about a plethora of big-name footballers finding themselves frozen out in the cold when their clubs fail to find a place for them in their new 25-man squads, it all turned out to be a massive anti-climax.

The only notable names to miss the cut at Premier League sides were Jonathan Woodgate, Michael Kightly and Luke Moore, the former two due to injury and the latter because he is expected to be sent out on loan.

If there was any doubt left that the talk about fringe players being forced to go without football until January if they didn't secure a move away from their current homes was proven to be nonsense by the fact that there was still room for Roque Santa Cruz in the Manchester City squad after his predicted Lazio switch fell through.

Even the existence of a strict 5pm Wednesday deadline for submitting the lists was overplayed, considering it's apparently still acceptable to add free signings to your ranks, as Blackpool did this morning by making former Wigan goalkeeper Richard Kingson their 24th member.

Will the Seasiders stay up? They are currently [1.39] relegation favourites...
