It's been a good transfer window for...
After spending the past few weeks listening to talk of 'my Nan's hairdresser knows Roy Hodgson's pedicurist and apparently Bobby Zamora is a done deal', we can finally start concentrating on events on the pitch. But not before we have a look back at five clubs who can count their summer dealings as a success...
Manchester City
Okay, they may have spent around £130 million but, taking money out of the equation, there aren't many teams in the world who wouldn't want Yaya Toure, David Silva, James Milner or Mario Balotelli. Only time will tell how the new boys work together, but these players should take City into the Champions League at least.
Everton
For some teams it's not about the players you bring in but the players you're able to keep. At the start of the summer it looked like the Toffees could be losing Mikel Arteta and Jack Rodwell to Manchester United, while there was constant speculation that Phil Jagielka could be off to Arsenal. But - despite losing Dan Gosling to Newcastle - David Moyes can be happy with his summer, although he's probably less happy with their start to the season.
Cardiff
Getting Jason Koumas (Wigan), Seyi Olofinjana (Hull) and Daniel Drinkwater (Manchester United) represented three brilliant loan signings for Dave Jones and means the south Wales side look well on course to go one better than their play-off final defeat last season. Oh, and they also got some Manchester City misfit in as well.
Birmingham City
Just getting Ben Foster from Manchester United for £6 million already made it a pretty good summer for the Blues. But then yesterday they managed to take Alexander Hleb on loan from Barcelona, got Martin Jiranek from Spartak Moscow and also Jean Beausejour from Club America. Birmingham fans may well feel their club did the best out of all the sides in the closing hours of the transfer window.
Liverpool
Okay, Paul Konchesky may not exactly set hearts racing, but the arrival of Joe Cole, Raul Meireles and Christian Poulsen for less than they sold Javier Mascherano for represents good business. They could have done with getting another striker, but when you consider the problems facing the club, this was far from the disastrous summer it could have been - just hanging on to Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres would have been good enough.
Think we're right? Or should your club be in there? Let us know what you think...
