Liverpool want Manchester City winger

With a bit of money to spend thanks to the new owners and a squad that, by his own admission, contains a few players that have turned out to be flops, it's no surprise that Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson is being linked with new signings - and this time, it's not a European we've never heard of but actually an established England international from the Premier League.

The Sun report that Hodgson is looking at moving in for Shaun Wright-Phillips in January, although he would want to pay no more than £5 million for the 29-year-old. The winger has fallen down the pecking order at Manchester City has is stalling on signing a new contract.

The Sun also says that Hodgson is keen on another wideman, PSV Eindhoven's Ibrahim Afellay - while the Daily Mail carries a story that Hodgson is giving a trial to Israeli teenager Omri Altman.

The 16-year-old midfielder is currently with Maccabi Tel Aviv and has played for his country at Under-17 level, a team coached by former midfielder Alon Hazan, who said: "'It doesn't surprise me in the slightest that he has been invited to a club like Liverpool. He has all the elements you look for in a player at the highest levels. He is not like a 16 year old kid."

Would you want Wright-Phillips at Anfield? Let us know below...

No thank you... 5mill for 1 or two games a year is about 3mill too much.

Average average average which is what Hodgeson is all about so its hardly surprising we are linked to him..
