Are Roy's signings right for Liverpool?
There was a lot of optimism a few weeks ago when Roy Hodgson signed Joe Cole on a free transfer and convinced Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard to commit their futures to the club. There were even murmurs of approval after turfing out Javier Mascherano and bringing in Raúl Meireles for a few million quid less.
But then Roy Hodgson returned to his former club Fulham to sign England full-back Paul Konchesky on a four-year deal. The move saw two players heading from Anfield to Craven Cottage in return - 18-year-old striker Lauri Della Valle and young Swedish winger Alex Kacaniklic.
And - if the latest rumours are true - it seems Carlton Cole could be following Konchesky out of London to Liverpool.
Neither of these signings has had a particularly positive reaction from Reds supporters, in fact, there was a refusal from many fans to accept that Konchesky would ever join Liverpool when the rumour first surfaced back in July.
But, with the window nearly closed, what do Liverpool fans make of the ins and outs at their club this summer? Is Carlton Cole any better than Ryan Babel? Will Joe Cole take you back to the top four? Let us know what you think and we'll publish the best replies...

I remain positive! But I have to say that i'm worried that cc won't be a good deal for is compared to what Ryan can do! I would be less worried if it was gomez or sant cruz!! May god help us!!!!

Whether we as supporters like the new signings or not, doesn't really matter right now. The manager has signed them; he has put his faith in the new players, and we can only hope he can get them playing like a team, playing for the LFC shirt, and WIN matches.

by bringing in these types of players i.e Konchesky and Cole if he comes; Hodgson is dragging the club further down. These are not Liverpool players and never will be. They do not possess the necessary quality to play for liverpool, only God knows what Gerrard and Torres make of this? Surely this was not what he prosposed he intended to do.The fans optimism for the present season has evaporated through Hodgson's signings. He shouldn't have got the job in the first place based on one good season with Fulham. What has he one within the last ten years?
that says it all!

Limited by budget(lack of) and lied to regarding a so called transfer fund this summer, roy had little choice, and anyway, who would want to join us right now?
By my reckonings, if babel goes and we buy only CC, we'll be around 20m in the black still, enough for one top class attacking player to challenge kuy and jova(boy do they need it) OR a nasty interest payment..hmmmm

Little time left and i feel Roy is incompetent in the transfer window and is making excuses he has had months to line up a striker and sell Insua etc
The late selling of Babel and the cover up on the transfer funds from Mashes sale tell me the yanks are out to make another tidy profit on the window.
If Roy does not spend the sales money then it will never appear as the club is being sold.
This also says we aren't getting told the true story here.

I'm prepared to admit the Konshesky signing. He's a solid enough performer- not great but ok. Obviously I'm surprised to see Lauri Della Valle going in the other direction.
But there's no way Liverpool should be taking Carlton Cole in place of Ryan Babel- unless they're also getting £10 million in the deal. Babel has huge potential, Carlton Cole simply doesn't. It is very bad business.
This confirms the suspicion we had about Roy- that he is a mid-table manager. God help us!

Well, the truth of the matter is neither konchesky or c cole are of the type of consistent quality needed in a club with title aspirations. I think Roy knows this, but I also think his hands have been tied due to an absence of funds and this is essentially the best he can get. They will be an improvement over Agger/babel in their respective positions and for that we should be positive. We should not however have any false optimism that we are overall any better off than we were last year. What lfc fans really want to know is who will buy our club and what will they do with it?

I think you have to be positive roy is looking to build a new team and get his own signings and the good thing is british players ok people may not be happy with the signing of paul but give him a chance he enjoys a tackle and getting forward so I think he will complement johnson. Just hope if we get cole he can stay injury free. Let's judge him and the signings at the end of the season

Why sign Konchesky. We desperately need a striker and Woy signs a bloody left back.Carlton Cole is not and never will be good enough to be a Liverpool player, the same a Lucas Levia.Me thinks we are in danger of moving slowly backwards as opposed to the opposite direction.I sincerely hope im wrong.YNWA.

Konchesky is simply not good enough. No other top manager would have gone for him. He is too old and way too slow. I think Hodgson is great for a mediocre mid table team, but not for a team with ambition like Liverpool. Insua has more potential, if Hodgson was a decent coach he would work with Insua and work on improving and developing his game, rather than going to his old club and raiding the has beens.

As a Liverpool fan it is quite disturbing to see the dillusion amongst many of my compatriots! We are not 'cash rich' at the moment, we don't have even 5% of the resource of Man city - the club is in a limbo state and the fact you are making comment like "He isn't deserving of Liverpool and doesn't have the necessary quality" to me is a sure sign of ignorance at best. So people on these boards surely have a far better understanding of what needs to be done then Roy Hodgson, yeah sure!! We have to invest within our current means and the buys we have got in the transfer (MOST notably Poulson and Meireles) are outsanding considering we are not in the CL not mentioning Joe Cole who has more of a point to prove than ANY player this season in the premier league and already you can't disguise his utter enthusiasm! There are also guide lines as to 'home grown' players which this touches on, so clue yourselves up before blabbering!! Last point of this for anyone who thinks Konchesky isn't 'good enough' - so Aurelio and Insua were? Shutup please!!!!

I'm sorry guys but I wish the Liverpool fans would have some faith in Roy.fair enough you wanted new flavour and flair but he's bringing in some players to give a bit or stability and structure to the team although I wish he kept aqulani or whatever his name was cuz he had some flair etc. Anyways I'm a united fan...did I ever think Darren fletcher would be on the team sheet week in week out?NO! But he's earned it and he's trained hard and played to his ability and made use of the world class players around him. He might not be world class but no other united player hounds players on the ball like he does and that's his attributes that makes him different. Good luck to Roy!ull need it if the fans are already on ur back lol
